About the Study

This study will create a registry of women at high risk of breast cancer. A registry collects data about specific populations to understand them better. This study will also look at whether an abbreviated MRI works as well as a full MRI for screening women at high risk of breast cancer. An MRI uses strong magnetic fields to create images of the organs in the body and can be used for breast cancer detection and diagnosis. A full MRI consists of many images whereas an abbreviated MRI uses only the most important images.

What the Study Involves

All participants will have:

A full MRI every 6 months (twice a year)
A screening mammogram once a year

This Study is Open To:

Women 25 years and older who:

Have a known BRCA1, BRCA2, TP53, PALB2, PTEN, CDH1 or STK11 mutation
OR are otherwise high risk based on their lifetime risk of developing breast cancer and other factors
Are willing to travel to the University of Chicago Medicine for all study related activities
Are able to give informed consent

This Study is Not Open To:

Participants who do not meet the inclusion criteria defined above and those who:

Are undergoing active cancer treatment
Are pregnant or want to get pregnant within two years of enrolling
Have a pacemaker or any other metallic object in their body that interferes with an MRI
Have had breast surgery within two weeks of enrollment
Have had a double mastectomy
Have kidney disease or abnormal kidney function
Have a history of dye allergy that cannot be controlled with medication
