About the Study
The purpose of this research is to study and understand the genetic and molecular causes of breast and prostate cancer in people with African ancestry. The research is led by a group called the African Caribbean Cancer Consortium (AC3) and involves gathering information from patients in several different countries and regions, including the Bahamas, Barbados, Benin, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Jamaica, Kenya, Namibia, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States. The main questions AC3 wants to answer are:
- What genetic changes happen in the DNA of people of African descent who have breast and prostate cancer?, and
- How does the way you live, your lifestyle, and other factors affect these genetic changes and the development of cancer?
What the Study Involves
People in this study will complete a questionnaire about their environments and lifestyles. You will also give a blood sample and permission for the study team to access a piece of your cancer tissue from the center where you were treated. These blood and tissue samples will be used for molecular and genetic testing to look for changes that are only seen in the tumor as well as look for genetic changes that a person may have been born with, known as inherited gene mutations. Results of these tests will be provided to you. You will be followed by the study team for one year.

People 18 to 85 years old and who:
- self-identify as Black, African, or African American
- have a diagnosis of breast or prostate cancer
This Study is Not Open To:
- less than 18 years old
- older than 85 years old
- do not self-identify as Black, African, or African American
- do not have a breast or prostate cancer diagnosis
- need to have medical decisions made by someone else
