BreastReconstruction.org is thrilled to announce our Nipple Areola Tattoo Access Fund, created in partnership with Pink Aid Long Island!

Breastreconstruction.org is a 501c(3) non-profit organization on a mission to improve breast reconstruction outcomes for people from every background, at every stage by empowering them with the tools and resources they need to make informed breast reconstruction choices.

Breast reconstruction after mastectomy is a deeply personal and transformative process. For many, it represents a critical step toward healing—both physically and emotionally. However, this journey is often accompanied by questions, challenges, and uncertainties.

That’s where BreastReconstruction.org comes in. We aim to be a trusted companion for patients by demystifying the breast reconstruction process and preparing patients to make decisions that work for their bodies, minds, and lives.

Many breast reconstruction patients are denied the opportunity to undergo nipple areola tattoo after breast reconstruction. This final step has notable psychological benefits. Patients report increased satisfaction with their overall reconstructive outcome and sense of restoration. It offers a sense of completion where other elements of reconstruction fall short. Unfortunately, many people do not have insurance that provides coverage for this procedure and cannot otherwise afford it. Others have inadequate coverage and face exorbitant out-of-pocket costs.

In order to expand access to this emotionally restorative procedure, BreastReconstruction.org is launching a Nipple Areola Tattoo Access Fund. This program offers one-time grants for nipple areola tattooing to patients in Nassau and Suffolk Counties who demonstrate financial need. Its regional pilot initiative comes with great thanks to a Pink Aid Long Island 2025 Grant, which will support its initial run.

The process is simple: you choose a restorative tattoo artist, schedule an appointment, and send us information on your provider and your income ahead of your scheduled procedure. If your provider is an accredited restorative tattoo artist and you meet our location and income based requirements, BreastReconstruction.org will let you and your artist know that you’ve been approved and pay your provider directly.

If you or someone you know needs financial support for nipple areola tattooing from an accredited provider, please  visit the Nipple Areola Tattoo Access Fund page on our website for details on how the program works, what tattoo artist credentials are required,  how we determine financial need, and all other application materials. We look forward to reviewing your applications!
