Information about Inherited Mutations

What is ?

is a gene that helps control cell growth. People who are born with changes—called mutations—in their gene have an increased risk for certain types of cancer.  

What are the cancer risks associated with ?

Mutations in the have been linked with an increased risk for cancer. There is not enough research to conclude that a mutation increases the risk of other cancers.  

What can people with a mutation do?

There are guidelines for cancer screening for people with mutations. 

People with an inherited mutation who have been diagnosed with cancer may qualify for specific treatments or clinical trials. 

If you test positive for a mutation, you should inform your close blood relatives  about your test results and encourage them to speak with a genetics expert.
